President's Welcome

Welcome SASDA to the Volunteer State!

Dear SASDA Member,

As the current president of the Southern Association of State Departments of Agriculture, I am honored to welcome you to Tennessee for the 2017 SASDA annual meeting.

Nashville is well known for its food, culture and of course, live music. What many people don’t realize is that if you drive about twenty minutes in any direction from downtown, you will find yourself surrounded by agriculture. While our city continues to grow, it is holding on to its small-town feel. We take great pride in that and I sincerely hope you enjoy your time here.

We all know that farming isn’t easy. Agriculture has numerous challenges and it always has. Providing for a growing global population is a tremendous job and it requires people who understand hard work and determination. As public servants who represent the farming and forestry communities of each southern state and territory, it is our job to work just as hard to make sure their interests are protected at every level of government.

I wish you the best as you conduct the important business of SASDA. May our time together lead to new relationships and strengthen longstanding ones as we continue to promote agriculture worldwide.

Sincerely,

Jai Templeton
Tennessee Commissioner of Agriculture
